Minisforum UM773 Lite Review

The UM773 Lite offers last-gen AMD Zen 3+ power with the Ryzen 7 7735HS and Radeon 680M, but its pricing raises eyebrows. At $529 (32GB+1TB), it competes with newer models like Minisforum's own UM780 XTX (7840HS, $559 32 GB RAM + 1TB SSD) and UM790 Pro (7940HS, $519 32 GB RAM + 1 TB SSD). The Radeon 680M delivers 38fps in GTA V (1080p High), but is 15% slower than the Radeon 780M in newer chips.

For budget buyers, the UM790 Pro (7940HS, $385 barebone) provides better CPU/GPU performance at similar prices. Even more compelling: the GMKtec K8 Plus (8845HS + OCuLink, $520) offers Zen 4 efficiency and eGPU expandability. The UM773 Lite's 2.5G Ethernet and USB4 are positives, but the Zen 3+ architecture and lack of OCuLink make it hard to recommend over rivals.

Where the UM773 Lite makes sense: as a barebone ($349) for upgraders needing SATA storage (rare in newer models). However, the UM690S (6900HX, $329) or Beelink SER6 Pro (7735HS, $319) often undercut it. Unless you find it discounted below $450, newer alternatives deliver better value.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • SATA Expansion: Rare 2.5" bay for extra storage (unlike newer models).
  • USB4 Support: 40Gbps port for high-speed peripherals/display.
  • Decent iGPU: Radeon 680M handles light gaming (e.g., CS2 at 1080p Medium).

Cons

  • Outdated CPU: Zen 3+ (7735HS) trails Zen 4 (7840HS/8845HS) by ~18% in multi-core.
  • Price/Performance: $529 is too close to superior UM780 XTX ($559).
  • No OCuLink: GMKtec K8 Plus offers this at similar prices.
  • Basic Cooling: Single fan struggles under sustained loads (~88Β°C CPU temps).
