Minisforum 795S7/129i7 Mini-ITX Review

The 795S7 (AMD) and 129i7 (Intel) offer distinct approaches to Mini-ITX builds. The 795S7 ($939) combines AMD's 16-core Ryzen 9 7940HX with an RTX 4060 (100W), delivering 24,500 in Cinebench R23 and 85fps in Cyberpunk 2077 (1080p Ultra, DLSS 3). Its PCIe 5.0 x16 slot allows desktop GPU upgrades, though the 400W PSU limits high-end options. The 129i7 ($391 barebone) targets budget users with Intel's i9-12900HK but lacks integrated graphics utility without a discrete GPU.

Compared to competitors like the Minisforum HX200G, the 795S7's RTX 4060 outperforms AMD's RX 7600M XT in ray tracing, but its Radeon 610M iGPU is useless when the dGPU is disabled. The 129i7's PCIe 4.0 x8 slot bottlenecks modern GPUs (e.g., RTX 4070 loses ~15% performance vs. x16). Both systems share a noisy cooler (45dB under load) and plasticky Mini-ITX chassis, but the AMD model's superior I/O (USB4, HDMI 2.1) justifies its premium.

The 795S7 excels as a compact gaming/workstation hybrid, while the 129i7 is a niche pick for budget builders adding their own GPU. For pure value, the Beelink GTR7 Pro (7840HS, $699) offers better thermals, but the 795S7's PCIe 5.0 and RTX 4060 make it unique for upgraders. The 129i7 is hard to recommend unless found below $350.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • 795S7 GPU Advantage: RTX 4060 (100W) + PCIe 5.0 x16 enables 1080p Ultra gaming and future GPU upgrades.
  • AMD Multi-Core Dominance: 7940HX's 16 cores outperform Intel's 12900HK in Blender (~30% faster).
  • Dual 2.5G Ethernet: Ideal for servers/network labs (Intel I225-V controllers).
  • Barebone Flexibility: Save $480 with 795S7 barebone (add your own RAM/SSD/GPU).

Cons

  • 129i7 GPU Limitation: No iGPU utility (requires discrete GPU for display output).
  • Plastic Chassis: Feels cheap vs. metal competitors like Asus PN64.
